In April 2022, my lab partner Chloe Heitmeier and I put our spoken skills to the test and presented an oral presentation on the research we conducted with our LSU Discover Research grant. Shown above is our PowerPoint presentation. A video clip of the presentation is also provided below. We focused on optimizing the cell free protein synthesis platform for the production of lignin, which requires specific conditions for disulfide bond production. This presentation was a nice cap to the years of research I had conducted in Dr. Kwon's lab, and it was an honor to receive a monetary award for being one of the top group presenters.

The goal of this project was to develop our technological skills by creating a 3D tool design using Autodesk Inventor. Following the design, we were to conduct stress analysis on our design to verify its feasibility and durability. For my project, I chose to design a surgical scalpel because it bridges my interest in engineering to my interest in medicine. I really enjoyed this project because it allowed me to showcase some of my creativity and attention to detail, which you can see closer in my final report attached below.

The purpose of this project was to test our written and technological abilities by utilizing SuperPro Designer to create an industrial process to create a value-added product. I chose to create a process for the production of insulin because of its ties to the medical field. This project was carried out over the course of the entire semester and required a comprehensive literature review, over a dozen hours of SuperPro designing, and a final report that includes background research, materials, methods, justification, and an economic analysis. I loved this project because it gave me an appreciation for the big picture and process of drug production while putting a large number of my written and technological skills to the test.

BIOL 1504 was a Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (C.U.R.E.) lab. Under the direction of ecology graduate student Carrie Barker, we spent the semester cultivating Schizachryium scoparium in a control soil and a soil that was cultivated from patches of Ilex glabra (gall berry) in a native Louisiana long-leaf pine forest. Each week we monitored growth and we later conducted various soil measurements to research the method by which the gall berry plants form monodominant patches, thus reducing the biodiversity in native bunch grasses. At the end of the semester, my lab partner and I translated all of our scientific work into the visuals shown on this poster and presented it to our instructor.
